Mezzotint, Encounters of the Moment

7 comments:

  1. It has a really nice jazzy rhythm to it (I originally typed "jazzzy" and that fits even better!); I can hear a Beat poet of the fifties, beret and cigarette smoke, reciting it to the accompaniment of a saxophone and his own foot-taps. I think the prolific use of commas helps the rhythm ("just this side of," but I would delete the comma after "carved into." I dig!

  2. Yo Tambien Chica! RLC nailed it perfecto! Yo dig!!!!! Almost like a futuristic painting! I can almost see the little dog's feet moving in Severini's painting ala onomontapeia(sp)!!!! Keep those comma's flowin'

  3. I had to come back more than once to absorb this. I'm slow like that, sometimes. But wowee, woman, this time is, where the heart, big band jazz, complex colliding rhythm of, you!

  4. Ken, Even to me it was more about feelings than actual concrete substance, but there is a journey, driving through the night. As "if the lights were all reflecting off wet buildings, streets, and parked cars"... lovely! The colours, as I imagined them, were like that too... Thank you.

Richard, jazzzy, I like that! Lots of saxaphone zzzz's, yes, and perhaps the serpentine line of much sultry jazz in the ride itself. I'll take out that comma, thanks (to you & Oscar, of the Wilde variety, who suggests entire meanings can be changed by a comma :). In part inspired, I suspect, by dancing last Saturday night, as one of only two dancers, in a circle of about 20 drummers (African drums) and one saxaphone player, and, mygod, what he did to the mixture of music-

Lhombre, as a jazz musician, and artist, ah, yes. Your music, its sensuality perhaps a different kind of line, gesture, than your more geometric art. I love the connection to Severini- dancers, light, movement! I have to admit I couldn't get Mondrian out of my mind as I was imagining the broken line in the middle of the road, highway. But then, it was also as close as last weekend's dancing into the early hours!

I'm not sure if I want to weight it with the names of musicians, like notes on a guitar...

MB, I do that too- often read posts but can't comment until I've absorbed what's there. I'm glad you find this, uh, big band colliding rhythm, heart!

(As I leave these responses to the most wonderful comments, thank you, I'm a temp receptionist at a large, downtown investment firm just for the afternoon and so this is all a bit surreal at the moment. Hushed business tones here, but the jungle of stockbroking just under the surface...)

  5. I think it did help to add that line. Somehow to give a little framework for the flashes of image.

How goes the purr of the stockbroker's jungle? (Now there's a poem waiting to be written! Go for it!)

  6. MB, that was yesterday, today it was tutoring a 1st yr student with an essay on Hobbes & Locke, and now out to the West end to help a Gr 2 student with her reading... The stockbroker's world already forgotten- it's sovereignity and civil society now! Or the phonetics of the English Language. Or love, the morning spent that way. Oh, sigh. Thank you honey. :)

  7. Sounds much better to me... philosophy, reading, love... More my style than stockbroking. Now jungles are a different thing. Green of a natural sort, at any rate.
