I've put up a new banner and changed the colours in the blog.
I took the photograph, a self-portrait, last Fall, after reading Peter Handke's, A Sorrow Beyond Dreams.
(Click on photo to see it at full size, which looks better to my eye. I had to shrink the image for the blog header.)
Or this, which I... don't know what to say about.
The original photo, and don't ask how I did all the colour and whatnot, I did so many things in Photoshop Elements I can't remember!

Hello Brenda,
ReplyDeleteThis new banner is more evocative of the mood of your blog, particularly in light of the more personal turn it is taking. I hope you keep it.
The need to speak of the "messiness of reality" seems to me to lead to the creation of more compelling art.
Joy to you and to your children in this new year.
Joan
Hi Joan,
ReplyDeleteIt's been so long I thought you'd all but disappeared! I am so very glad to read your comment and I thank you for your support in this direction of integrating the "messiness of reality" into my writing here.
I now go to The Move and hardly ever to 5Rhythms, which had become more partnered exercises than dance. The Move is generally packed, but the energy is great and it's wonderful to dance at maximum volume too. I really hope we meet on the dance floor soon again! Seeing you once after nearly 30 years wasn't enough!
Wishing you and your husband and son the very best in 2009, a year of wish-fulfillment in the deepest sense...
hugs, Brenda
this is an interesting change, brenda. i hope i don't offend you, but if i am honest i must say that in my opinion this photograph makes you look about 10 years older. your eyes look heavy as though you are poorly rested or ill. while you do look contemplative i don't find the photograph appealing as others of you have been. perhaps it is the mood you want to capture though.
ReplyDeletei am so glad your daughter's foot was not broken. i hope she is feeling much better now.
Hi Sky, no, of course you don't offend by saying that - I am, afterall, almost 57. It's a strange photo that almost doesn't work and yet there's something compelling about it. I don't think it particularly 'looks' like me either. But perhaps something of the contemplative mood, yes. You are right, and perhaps after a bit I shall change it. Though I am also intrigued to present an 'un'-flattering image that has other depths to it (perhaps, for how are we to know these things).
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has been resting her foot as much as she can and it's much better - the swelling has gone down and the deep bruise across the top is not as sore. Neither her Dad nor the girlfriend have called in over a week to see how she is doing either. It's simply entirely strange to me, this way of parenting (I mean their way).
Hope you're enjoying January on your side of the continent and aren't as snowed in as we are!
hugs, Brenda
